We recommend that you leave your vehicle windows rolled up for at least 5 days after the window film installation. This allows the film to cure and adhere to the glass before the window is moved. In warm weather, wait at least 3 days.
After window film installation, wait a week before cleaning the inside of the window where the film was installed. After a week, use a window cleaner without ammonia and a soft cloth or rubber squeegee. We recommend foam cleaners because they do not streak and are usually ammonia-free. Never scrape the film with any type of blade or clean your tinted windows with anything abrasive, as it will scratch the film.
Damaged window film cannot be repaired, but the damaged piece of film can be removed and the glass can be re-tinted.
Yes. However, having this level of window film on front doors is not legal in Illinois. Vehicle factory window tint is usually 26%-15% film level. Illinois law states that the front door legal light transmission must be greater than 35%, which is lighter than the rear window of your factory tinted vehicle.
Yes. As long as it is factory window tint, we can install window film directly on the glass. Factory window tint’s color is actually a pigment in the glass. Aftermarket window film also has many more solar benefits than factory window tint. Factory tint only rejects part of the UV rays, and only rejects a small amount of heat. Aftermarket window film rejects 99% of ultraviolet rays and between 35%-80% of heat, depending on the film level used. In addition to these benefits, darkening factory tinted glass will give you more privacy for storing your personal items in the back of the vehicle.
Yes, window film does increase the safety of the glass; due to a very aggressive adhesive, the film helps to hold the pieces of broken glass together in the event the glass breaks, due to an auto accident, a person running into it, or an attempted break-in. The glass will shatter, but in most instances, the film will help keep the glass together making clean-up easier and the likelihood of you getting cut a lot less.
Yes. The same sun that brightens a car’s interior can be detrimental to fabrics, leather, and vinyl. Ultraviolet rays are the main cause of both fade and deterioration. Window films can screen out 99% of the damaging UV rays that can fade almost all interior surfaces of your vehicle. Heat and light also play a part in fading, but using window film to block nearly 100% of UV rays will increase the life of your personal property for years.
XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film uses a special polymer in its clear coat that flows even though it is cured. This allows the clear coat to find its natural level again after being disturbed on the surface.
The clear coat is designed to heal surface scratches and common swirl marks that occur during routine washing of the car. If the scratch penetrates through the film's clear coat, it will not heal.
The time for a scratch to heal depends on the severity of the scratch and the ambient temperature. Minor scratches usually heal in one hour at room temperature (72°F). In warmer climates, healing time will be shorter. The healing process can be accelerated at any time by pouring hot water over the scratched area.
With this technology, there is no limit to the number of times the clear coat can heal itself. As long as the clear coat is not penetrated it will heal over and over again.
Depending on how the film is cared for, the clear coat can last indefinitely. Regular washing and waxing will keep the clear coat in top condition for years to come.
Sealants such as Opticoat and cQuartz will not hurt the film or interfere with our ULTIMATE paint protection film’s self-healing properties.
We do NOT recommend applying sealants such as Opti-Coat or cQuartz to the parts of the car that will be covered with film. The low surface energy of paint sealant products such as these will cause adhesion problems both during installation and over the life of the product. In addition, it is worth noting that there is really no benefit to applying sealant to the paint before the film, since the film will provide far more environmental protection to the paint than a sealant ever could.
You will need to talk to your body shop and see what they recommend. The time will vary depending on the paint system the body shop used. In any case, the time that they recommend you should wait to wax the paint, is the same time you will need to wait to install our product.
We recommend using our XPEL Flawless Finish Paint Protection Film Sealant.
The clear coat on XPEL ULTIMATE has a very low surface energy, which makes it extremely difficult for organic compounds to stick to the film. Insects, bird droppings and environmental contaminants (which would normally cause yellowing) such as road oils, exhaust smoke and pollution can be removed during regular washing. An example of a similar technology would be Teflon, where a Teflon pan is easy to clean because nothing will stick to it.
We recommend using the film cleaner and a soft paint safe brush to clean the affected area. You may also use acetone or lacquer thinner in moderate use.
XPEL ULTIMATE Protection Film: Care Instructions
To keep your film looking great, follow a few simple guidelines:

To keep your film looking great, follow a few simple guidelines:
Removing Scratches From the Film
Most scratches in the film can be removed using a rotary or dual-action buffer. For best results, it is recommended to use 3M Perfect-It Machine Polish (part number 06064) used with their color-coded buffing pad (Part number 05738). If needed, this product can be followed by 3M Perfect-It Ultrafine Machine Polish (part number 06068) used with the blue pad (part number 05733) to restore a deep, swirl free shine.
Waxing the Film
Contamination from road oils, diesel smoke, pollen, and pollution can cause discoloration and de-glossing of the film. While traditional automotive waxes can provide a small level of protection against contamination, XPEL Flawless Finish Film Sealant is designed specifically to provide the strongest possible barrier against these and other contaminants. Moreover, waxes that contain dyes and other chemicals such as naphtha or kerosene may discolor or de-gloss the film over time and should be avoided.
